Sunroom, Dartmouth, Devon
Designed to fit in with the building’s castellation’s, this sunroom was located over the original flat roof to the building. It was accessed by a new stairwell opened up through the existing roof. Due to load restrictions on the original construction, the sunroom and surrounding deck had to be designed so that no additional loads were transferred into the main roof deck below it.
This was achieved by the use of a shallow steel beam grid-work that took its bearing from the substantial surrounding walls. Defection of the grid was a major consideration in the structural design.
